The Appalachian Equality Chorus returns to the Historic Bijou Theatre with Spirits & Sparkle, a joyful and spirited holiday tradition that shines brighter each year. This year’s concert invites audiences to discover the many “spirits” of the season—those we treasure, those we miss, and even one or two that may surprise you along the way. Through song, story, and a dash of theatrical flair, the Chorus captures the magic of the holidays in all their variety: nostalgic, merry, playful, and deeply heartfelt.

With more than 150 singers raising their voices, you’ll be swept away by a sound that fills the theatre with warmth and wonder. Beloved classics such as White Christmas and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Yearblend seamlessly with modern favorites like Last Christmas and All I Want for Christmas Is You. Whether you come to sing along, reminisce, or discover something new, Spirits & Sparkle is sure to light up your holiday season.

The Chorus is guided by the artistic vision of Dr. Alan Stevens (Artistic Director), Dr. Lindsey Cope (Assistant Director), and Bleu Copas (Executive Director). Their leadership has helped the group grow into one of the Southeast’s largest and most vibrant LGBTQ+ and allied choruses. Founded in 2012 as the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus and reimagined in 2023 as the Appalachian Equality Chorus, the ensemble has become a powerful voice for inclusion, equality, and empathy.

More than a chorus, we are a community of singers and supporters working to build bridges, celebrate diversity, and inspire positive change. Each performance is a chance to carry forward our mission: ending hostility toward minority populations and bettering our world through the unifying power of music.
