Featured Artist of the Month: Leesa Osburn
August – September 2023
I was born and raised on the Oregon Coast. I enlisted in the Army and had the opportunity to travel to Germany. After serving, I returned to the U.S. and eventually retired in Las Vegas, NV for 14 years. After too many hot summers, in 2019 my husband and I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee with our two rescue dogs. The positive change in environment has reinvigorated my need to put paint to canvas.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree from University of Nevada Las Vegas, I chose to paint in Water Soluble Oils. Some of the reference images I use come from an extensive library of copyright-free sites on the internet. My work, mostly landscapes and animals, have been shown now in several local exhibits and I hope to expand my reach to more juried events. I also paint commissioned pet portraiture. To help in a small way at Young-Williams Animal Center, I paint portraits of their long-term residents.
To expand my craft, I joined Tuesday Painters, a Plein Air painting group. Painting Plein Air invokes painting in the style of Impressionism. This is definitely a challenge for someone who paints in detail. I have also been recently influenced by Robert A. Tino to incorporate palette knife painting into my current style.
Paintings available through Zelle or Venmo.
