Leaving Legacy – Living Legacy: The Sankofa Legacy Honors

A Black History Month Feature Program presented by the Beck Cultural Exchange Center

Join us for a powerful evening of recognition, reflection, and celebration at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center’s annual Black History Month Program. This year, as Beck marks its 50th anniversary, we honor 50 African Americans who have made significant contributions to history, culture, and progress.

With the theme “Leaving Legacy – Living Legacy,” this special event introduces the inaugural Sankofa Legacy Honor—a recognition that embodies the Ghanaian principle of Sankofa, meaning “go back and fetch it,” signifying the importance of learning from the past to build a stronger future.

The evening will feature:
- Live music by our house band, led by the talented Brian Clay
- Dynamic performances by the Austin-East Dance Company
- Powerful rhythms from the Austin-East African Drummers
- Soulful singing, spoken word, and engaging monologues that uplift the rich legacy of Black excellence

This event is a moment to reflect on the past, honor the present, and inspire the future. All are welcome to join this vibrant and moving celebration of culture, history, and artistic expression.
