What you need to know:
Children will need to bring a bagged lunch and a water bottle.  Comfortable, movable clothing and shoes are required. Sandals, flip-flops, and gum are not allowed.

Meet your camp leader:
The Bijou’s General Manager, Nathan McGhee, will conduct this year’s acting lessons and activities.

McGhee has been involved in the theatre world for almost twenty years across the region. Locally, he has worked with (onstage and off) the Tennessee Stage Company, Encore Theatrical Company, Morristown Theatre Guild, Theatre Knoxville Downtown, and Flying Anvil Theatre. Some notable performances have included Macbeth (Witch), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Brad), and Sweeney Todd (Tobias). He holds seven years of dance experience and three years of vocal training. McGhee also boasts numerous national acting titles in forensics, speech and debate, and storytelling competitions.

After studying Theatre Education, he has hosted numerous camps, workshops, and educational initiatives across the region with various nonprofits and Knox County Schools. He has also directed multiple children’s theatre productions (The Hobbit: The Musical, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Harriet Pohter the Musical, etc.) and regularly coaches acting students for local and college auditions.  He is incredibly excited to get back into the world of theatre and to help guide (and have lots of fun!) our community’s rising stars.

Meet your workshop director:
Emma is a lifelong theater kid and proud company member of Encore Theatrical Company in Morristown. She has contributed both on stage and behind the scenes in numerous productions, with a special passion for youth theater. Emma enjoys working with programs like the Young Stars Series, the Junior Company, and the Junior Theater Festival (JTF) program. Some of her favorite directing credits include The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, Finding Nemo Jr., and Mary Poppins Jr. She studied business and theatre at Lipscomb University and holds an MBA from Carson-Newman University. When she’s not at the theater, Emma works as an accountant for the City of Jefferson City. She is a passionate advocate for accessible arts programming and firmly believes that the skills developed through the arts enrich every aspect of life.

Meet your music instructor:
Beth Ann is so excited to be joining the Bijou on this adventure! She is an Encore Theatrical Company member and has worked with them on various projects for 7 years, most recently as music director for their summer production of Sweeney Todd. She loves being involved both onstage and off, with her most recent onstage credit as Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors and her first songwriting credit this past January in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, under the direction of Nathan McGhee. Beth Ann received her undergraduate from Carson-Newman University in Vocal Music Education and teaches choir and piano at Greeneville High School, where she also accompanies the choirs.

Spots are limited for the workshop to ensure an optimal student-teacher ratio. Historically, Bijou workshops have sold out fast with large waiting lists. For questions or concerns, please contact Nathan McGhee at Nathan@knoxbijou.org or at 865-522-0832 ext. 1006.
